Baby It’s Cold Outside

Cold Weather Tips

The country including Florida is bracing for brutally cold weather. We haven’t had these type of temperatures in Florida in 30 years or so. Many of us haven’t experienced this type of cold weather if we have lived here long enough. Those of you that come from up North may be used to this weather but unfortunately our housing, piping, cars, etc are built for this weather. A few extra steps can help you protect your pipes, car, etc. We may not get any snow but we will get some freezing temperatures and Northern counties have a deep freeze warning.

Tips:

  1. Drip your faucets to prevent pipes from freezing.

  2. Wear layers.

  3. Keep space heaters at least 3 ft away from any draperies, linens, etc. Do not leave children or pets unattended near space heater.

  4. Bring pets indoors.

  5. Cover plants with cotton blankets or bring inside if possible.

  6. Check on your neighbors, especially the elderly and more vulnerable.

  7. Check your car battery. The cold weather drains the power from batteries.

  8. Use at least 50/50 to 70/30 mix of antifreeze in your car and water to avoid against corrosion and freezing.

  9. Maintain your tire pressures. Cold weather will decrease the air pressure in tires.

  10. Keep gas tank at least half-full. This not only keeps you from getting stranded in the cold but also keeps gas lines from freezing and reduces condensation.

We wish you a Happy Holiday Season! Stay healthy, safe and warm! Look out for others and be kind!
